The White Lion - Guardian of the Crown

Inspired by the iconic ‘Three Lions’ emblem associated with the England national team, the life-size sculptures will prowl across a 1.945 km² stretch of central London, with each sculpture designed by a different artist and celebrating England’s football story, culture and communities.

Russell was invited by The London Heritage Quarter to design a Lion for Great Scotland Yard - Whitehall. Her brief was Victoriana in keeping with the history of the first home of the Metropolitan Police. Using flowing imagery, the artwork weaves together the present and the past - with The White Lion of legend symbolising hope for the future.
